The role
As a Legal Counsel you would drive the company's commercial interests through expert contract management, dispute resolution, and strategic legal advisory. Based at our Malta office "The Quad", you'll own the full lifecycle of our commercial contracts - from drafting to negotiation to close - while resolving disputes, protecting revenue, and delivering sharp, practical advice across the Gentoo organisation on everything from IP to data privacy and employment matters.
What you'll be doing
Commercial Contracts & Operations Management
- Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents and commercial contracts, including Master Service Agreements (MSAs), Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs), advertising orders, standard terms and conditions, and key supplier contracts.
- Manage the full life cycle of all commercial contracts, ensuring compliance and optimal business terms.
- Administer and maintain the automated contract management system, including user training and system upkeep.
- Develop and standardise commercial playbooks, templates, and internal legal guidance for commercial teams.
Dispute Resolution & Revenue Protection
- Formulate and implement effective strategies to resolve contractual legal disputes, protecting the company’s legal and commercial interests.
- Drive and manage debt collection efforts in collaboration with internal finance functions and external legal counsel to ensure timely revenue collection and positive cash flow.
Group Legal Support & Advisory
- Contribute to various legal projects across the Gentoo Group.
- Provide accurate and timely ad hoc legal advice and support to internal teams on a range of matters, with a focus on Intellectual Property (IP), Data Privacy (GDPR), and Employment Law.
Who we're looking for
Must-Have Requirements
- Jurisdiction: Qualified as an Advocate/Solicitor in Malta or a UK/EU Jurisdiction.
- Experience: A minimum of 3 years Post Qualification Experience (PQE) in Malta.
- Location: Must be based in Malta
- Language: Excellent written and verbal command of the English language.
Highly Desirable
- Demonstrable expertise or exposure to one or various the following practice areas is desirable but not essential:
- Corporate Law
- Capital Markets
- Employment Law
- Intellectual Property (IP) Law
- Data Privacy Law (GDPR)
